Review

Sitting just outside of Murchison Falls National Park in Uganda, Nile Safari Lodge is a comfortable independent lodge which is new on the block! The lodge, which opened its doors in September 2019, is perched on the southern bank of the River Nile and offers a good base for your time up in this area of Uganda.

Location

Nile Safari Lodge is located just outside of Murchison Falls National Park. From a logistics point of view, the lodge is in the process of getting a boat transfer which would take you between their lodge and the Murchison Falls National Park. This would be much easier in terms of the logistics of getting into the park as, currently, you have to transfer to a crossing point to then get across to the park (which takes around 1.5 hours in total).

Layout

The structural building of the lodge is impressive as soon as you arrive. The main area is all open-plan, with huge high-ceilings made from wooden beams and local material. As you walk through the entrance area (where there is also a small gift shop), you arrive to the bar area which is inviting with neutral colours and wooden tones. The restaurant overlooks the infinity pool and the rounded fire pit and further to that, the impressive River Nile. There is a spa which is a 4-minute walk from the main area along a stone path.

Rooms

The eight bandas are extremely spacious and are well-spaced along the banks of the River Nile. They are built on wooden platforms and the main area includes a large bed (double or twin rooms), a day bed, a desk and then a private veranda which has a comfortable sofa and an egg-chair looking out across the river. The en-suite bathroom is also very large, with a free-standing bath and both an indoor and outdoor shower.

Activities

Murchison Falls National Park is one of the best parks for a safari experience (alongside Kidepo and Queen Elizabeth). Once the boat across to the park has been organised, you can be in the park for sunrise to enjoy a morning game drive in a 4x4 safari vehicle. Being on the River Nile, other activities include a River Cruise and a hike to see the stunning Falls themselves.

The lodge is intimate and owner-run

Getting into the park is, currently, quite a long transfer
