Review

Sosian is a charm in the heart of the Laikipia Plateau. After a day of game viewing in Sosian’s large area of private land, the old ranch house is the perfect place to wind down and relax by the log fire, before being invited to join for delicious food around a communal dining table with wonderful hosts and service. Although Sosian lacks the extensive views of the plateau, it is in a great location for game and with so much on offer, it’s definitely among the favourites in the area!

Location

Sosian is situated in the central area of the Laikipia Plateau on a private ranch. The drive from Loisaba airstrip is roughly an hours drive but what a beautiful drive it is, as the landscape changes from rocky hilltops, vast and extensive open plains, to a dense forest-like environment. With access to a huge area of land, Sosian has great game viewing options, including tracking the African wild dogs.

Layout

Sosian is a restored ranch house built in the 1940’s that now homes the communal area for guests. The lounge and dining are have a beautiful African feel, with art and decor keeping the history of the ranch visible. Everything has a story behind it, especially the striking elephant tusks either side of the large log fire! The lodge sleeps 14 with a few extra beds available in the family cottage. At the end of the garden lies a stunning pool, a pool table, an al fresco dining area and a well-kept tennis court.

Rooms

The six en-suite double/ twin rooms are arranged in three units, each with a shared wide verandah looking out to the garden. Additionally, the family cottage which has an interconnecting room to sleep another three children if needed. The rooms are simply furnished, with a traditional decor which is fitting with the ranch house.

Activities

Sosian offers fantastic safari activities, including game drives, walking safaris, hiking, horse-back safaris (for experienced riders), camel riding, fishing, cattle ranching and cultural visits and fly camping. There is a beautiful walk that takes guests up and along the small waterfalls on the Ewaso Narok River, where in the heat of the day, it is popular to jump off into the plunge pools below. Top the day off with a breakfasts in the bush and sundowners in a remote treehouse!

Great area for game viewing and wide-ranging activities
