Greater Kudu

As dawn breaks over the acacia-studded plains, a shadow moves with quiet grace. The greater kudu, regal and watchful, steps into view—its spiraled horns catching the morning light. A creature of elegance and mystery, it vanishes as swiftly as it appeared, leaving only the whisper of its presence in the wild.
The Greater Kudu is one of Africa’s most majestic antelopes, instantly recognizable by its spiraled horns and elegant stature. Males can reach up to 1.6 meters (5 ft) at the shoulder and weigh as much as 270 kg (600 lbs). These woodland dwellers prefer dense bush and savanna habitats, where their muted coats and white stripes offer perfect camouflage among the trees and thickets.
Greater kudus are primarily browsers, feeding on leaves, shoots, and fruits from trees and shrubs. They are mostly active during early morning and late afternoon, resting in shade during the heat of the day. Males tend to be solitary or form small bachelor groups, while females and calves live in herds. Despite their size, kudus are remarkably agile and can leap over obstacles with ease.
Across Africa, greater kudus can be found in southern Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania. Notable parks include Tsavo East and West, Tarangire, and Ruaha National Park.
