Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge is a good choice for those looking for a remote experience in the heart of Bwindi Forest. Compared to the northern area of Buhoma, this lodge is set on its own, and has access to three habituated gorilla groups. The lodge has panoramic views of the majestic volcanoes – the Virunga chain, Bwindi Forest and the escarpment into the Albertine Rift Valley within the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The lodge has a cosy and intimate feel to it, with roaring fireplaces, freshly made food and an inviting dining room with views of the Virunga Volcanoes. The lodge has eight cottages and are located around the main area, overlooking the Bwindi Forest. The lodge has a spa which is the perfect place to restore harmony of mind, body and spirit in the forest.
The eight cottages stand alone and are built with an en-suite and a private terrace with either a view of the Virunga Mountains or Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The rooms have tall thatched roofs and the interior is simple and cosy. The rooms are self-contained with hot water but guests are advised that the water is scarce commodity in Nkuringo valley.
There are plenty of activities you can do from Nkuringo Lodge. Track the Nkuringo Gorilla families is top of the list but alongside that, activities include walk with trained guides for bird spotting activities along forest trails, undertake a guided multi-day trek to/from Kisoro via Lake Mutanda, experience a guided village walk and visit the Batwa pygmies.
