Lake Kivu Serena Hotel

This Serena hotel is sat just outside the small town of Gisenyi which is on the northern edge of Lake Kivu’s shores. It is a couple of hours drive from the capital, Kigali, and the famous Volcanoes National Park, so its location is useful for combining the Rwandan destinations. The hotel itself sits on a white beach so it can definitely be its own destination for a couple of relaxing days.

The hotel, as with other Serena Hotels, has lots of facilities to use including a swimming pool, a health centre and gym, a restaurant and indoor and beachside bars.

On the lake, guests can do fishing, swimming, boating, canoeing and jet skiing. On the shores, as well as relaxing in the grounds of the hotel, they can do cycling, walking and trekking.

Lake Kivu is the “beach” option for a visit to the land locked Rwanda and, as such, the activities are focussed around relaxing and enjoying activities on the lake such as waterskiing, swimming and sun bathing.

With plenty of trekking to see both the gorillas and the chimps, it can come as a welcome break for a couple of nights for many.
