What To Do

Africa Adventure Holiday

For those looking for something extraordinary!

Whilst many would consider an African safari to be a very adventurous holiday, there are a couple of destinations in Africa that offer activities that are bound to boost your adrenaline. With options of horse riding, camel riding, mountain biking, hiking, tubing, cultural visits, helicopter rides, wildlife tracking, Victoria Falls, bungee jumping, microlight flights, kayaking, fishing and many more, the modern safari has come a long way from a standard game drive. These activities are offered in a few destinations across Africa and have proven particular popular for families and active travellers!

Gorilla trekking in Rwanda and Uganda

For those looking for the ultimate adventure in East Africa, then trekking through Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda or Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda in search of the endangered mountain gorillas is the perfect choice. Sharing around 96% of the same DNA as humans, gorillas are our closest relative. They are social, gentle and intelligent animals and it is said that observing them in the wild, truly shows this.

There is something so special, yet quite daunting, about standing metres from a silverback weighing around 200kg! For more information, please see our gorilla trekking pages.

Walking Safaris in Africa

If you are keen on spending a night in the heart of the African wilderness, you could consider a walking safari and a night spent fly camping. The term fly camping can be used to describe a very lightweight camp used on mobile safaris and its ultimate goal is to bring people closer to nature than ever before. Sometimes fly camping can be as simple as a thin mattress and a mosquito net – giving you the ultimate sleeping under the stars feeling.

Whilst the experience is made safe by the guides, it is one of the most exhilarating feelings ever… What can beat falling asleep under the star-lit sky, hearing roars and footsteps in the middle of the night, and waking up to the smell of fresh coffee in the middle of the untouched wilderness?

Please see our walking safaris section for countries and locations that specialise in offering the best you can get.

Zambia adventure safaris

If you are looking for a country that ticks off an incredible safari experience, as well as combining adrenaline activities, then look no further than Zambia.

National Parks such as the South Luangwa and the Lower Zambezi offer reliable sightings of leopard, elephant and lion, either in a vehicle or on foot. With a short hop on to Victoria Falls you can which can be used as a great base for the adrenaline activities including bungee jumping, microlight flights over the falls, white water rafting and zip wiring.

Tanzania Adventure Holidays

Another country that needs its own section, the topography in Tanzania allows for a huge array of different safari combinations and activities. It is possible to swim in Lake Victoria after walking with chimps to then see the wildebeest of the Serengeti or camp in the bush in Ruaha and then luxuriate in the finest luxury on a white sand beach. The options (and budgets!) are endless!

With so many nuances to factor in, there is no substitute, in our experience, for having a talk through with someone but, to get you started we have also developed a Safari Finder that should allow you to get a few options initially.

Get help planning your ultimate Africa Adventure Holiday in africa

As much as AI has changed the way we all approach our lives, there is still no substitute for picking up the phone and having a chat through the options with one of us on +44 1525 840 149

This allows us to completely tailor the property choices, costs and itinerary length to your needs…but we also understand that this is not always possible with the busy lives we all lead.

With this in mind, we have also put together a safari finder tool that should help you to narrow down the initial stages at which point we can jump in to “round off the edges” as it were.

Alternatively please feel free to >send us an email with your timings, group size and rough likes and dislikes and we can get the ball rolling.

When is the best time to go on a Adventure Holiday trip to africa in 2026/27?

Whereas it’s feasible to go on a africa Adventure Holiday trip in 2026/27 almost any time of the year — depending on preferences and wildlife/safari viewing plans — but if you want to avoid peak season or aim to get the timing “just right” then use the following guide to the whole of africa or call us any time to check feasibility, costs or best options for the perfect africa Adventure Holiday  trip…

Januarymixed

Visiting Africa in January 2026/27

January is a bit of a mixed bag in Africa with the southern countries of Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe in their “green” seasons, expect heavy rains and limited access. East Africa, by contrast, is in a short dry period so offers the wildebeest migration herds in the southern Serengeti, gorilla trekking in Rwanda and Uganda and a low cost safari to Kenya.

Which Countries to Visit

Head to the Serengeti in Tanzania for the wildebeest herds, Rwanda and Uganda for gorillas and birding and Kenya for some value safari and beach.

Cheat Sheet

  • + Dry in East Africa
  • + A low season to travel so offers great deals
  • + The Great Migration in the southern Serengeti and calving
  •   Humidity starts to pick up

Top Tips for January 2026/27

  • + Keep an eye out for low season offers

Februarymixed

Visiting Africa in February 2026/27

As with January, most of the southern African countries are experiencing hot, humid and rainy conditions in their “green” seasons. East Africa continues to be a great option with relatively dry conditions and the great migration herds still in the southern Serengeti.

Which Countries to Visit

Tanzania and the Serengeti is still the prime destination for the big game while Rwanda and Uganda are still excellent for gorillas and birders alike.

Cheat Sheet

  • + East Africa is dry with temperatures around 30 degrees
  • + Superb birding including European migratories
  •   Wildebeest herds are easy to access in the Southern Serengeti
  •   Limited options for safari

Top Tips for February 2026/27

  • + Kenya can be great value
