Where to Stay

Bwindi Lodge

from $1,370 per person per night for 2026/27

One of our favourite lodge in all of Bwindi National Park, and Uganda!

Bwindi Lodge is the flagship lodge of the Volcanoes Portfolio, and what a lodge it is! The lodge sits in the heart of Bwindi town, a short walk from the gorilla tracking headquarters. As soon as you walk into Bwindi Lodge, you feel a sense of space and nature as the forest is right there, but also a feeling of cosiness and warmness as the fire is the central feature to the lounge.

Stunning lodge, service and overall experience

About the location

Bwindi Lodge is in the heart of Bwindi Town in south-west Uganda. For most people travelling to Uganda, this is the focus of their trip as it is where you go to do track the habituated mountain gorillas. Bwindi is a beautiful destination with steep mountains, lush forests and friendly communities.

Other than your mountain gorilla trek, you can do nature walks, forest hikes, project and community tours and of course, relax at your lodge or treat yourself to a massage after your hike!

Do see Parks & Regions on this page.

lodge Layout

The lodge sits on a large plot of land so all of the rooms, main area and spa are spread out across the gardens and pathways. The main area of the lodge is very inviting, with a large open-plan design comprising cosy sofas, a central fireplace, the restaurant area and then a garden and veranda area. The lodge has a lot of windows which are usually open, creating light and that sense of being in the middle of the forest.

Do see our new Bwindi Lodge Picture Gallery further down this page.

Bwindi Lodge Accomodation

The lodge has 10 comfortable chalets which have been built from locally sourced materials without compromising levels of comfort. Each chalet is eco-friendly, with solar lighting and rain showers. Some chalets also offer a bath-tub for relaxation and enjoyment after the day’s activities. Each chalet has an outdoor veranda with comfortable chairs.

Wildlife & Activities at Bwindi Lodge

The rooms at Bwindi are individual cottage-type rooms. They are very spacious, with a large bed, a corner day-bed area, an open fireplace and a well-appointed ensuite bathroom.

There are currently two deluxe rooms which are much larger in size and have a more contemporary design. This room has a lounge area with a fireplace, a sofa and a coffee table.

This room has a lounge area with a fireplace, a sofa and a coffee table.

Activities

Of course most people come to Bwindi purely for the tracking of the habituated mountain gorillas. In the morning, you will be guided with a member of staff from Bwindi Lodge to the park headquarters where you will begin your safety talk and be allocated to your guide/ranger. Bwindi Forest is stunning and we would definitely recommend staying three or four nights as you can do other nature walks, hikes and community projects.

Bwindi Bar

Bwindi Lodge opened a bar in the centre of Bwindi Town which is was a community project to train people in the world of hospitality. The staff work here for a couple of years and then once they have finished their apprentice at Bwindi Bar, they will most likely become staff at the main lodge. Guests can walk between Bwindi Lodge and Bwindi Bar and all of the drinks are included if you are staying at the lodge. It is a lovely bar and community project, definitely worth visiting!
