About the location
The camp inherited its name from the river it sits on, the Sand River. Situated within the Masai Mara National Reserve close to the Tanzanian border, Sand Rivers is an ideal location, for its picturesque environment and diverse wildlife it homes.
Although its game is exceptional all year round, from June to late October, this area witnesses the dramatic arrival of the Annual Migration, where two million wildebeest pass through the plains of the Mara.

lodge Layout
With 16 tented camps, Sand Rivers is spacious enough, yet retains a sense of intimacy as the tents are divided into two adjoining camps of six and 10 tents. Each camp is self-sufficent, with a traditional mess tent, a comfortable dining area, a pool and private views over the river.

Sand River Camp Accomodation
The tents are aesthetically pleasing, with a refreshing Out of Africa design and décor. The 16 tents, including one family tent, each have their own private viewing deck, which is the ideal for an “armchair safari”; sit back and watch the wildlife do its thing.

Wildlife & Activities at Sand River Camp
The only draw back to Sand River’s location inside the reserve is that game viewing activities are restricted, meaning guided bush walks or night drives are not permitted.
On the other hand, the game inside the reserve and surrounding the camp is incredibly rich, known for its large concentrations of big cats such as leopard, lion and cheetah, as well as the Great Migration that passes through these plains every year.
