What to See
Cheetah
[ Acinonyx jubatus ]
Graceful blur of speed across golden savanna.

Across the shimmering plains, the cheetah moves with effortless poise — a creature shaped by speed, precision, and quiet determination. In a world where every heartbeat counts, it stalks the grasslands with unmatched grace. To witness its sprint is to glimpse nature’s purest expression of power and beauty in motion.
The African cheetah is nature’s speedster, capable of reaching bursts of up to 98 km/h (60 mp/h) . Sleek and slender, it measures 1.1 to 1.5 meters (4 – 5 ft) in length and stands about 76 cm (2.5 ft) at the shoulder. Found in open grasslands and savannas, especially in East Africa, this big cat’s streamlined body and semi-retractable claws make it the ultimate predator built for acceleration.
Cheetahs are diurnal hunters, preferring to chase down prey like gazelles and impalas during daylight. Their hunting style relies on stealth, followed by explosive speed to outrun their target. Solitary by nature, females raise cubs alone while males often form small coalitions. They require vast territories and are vulnerable to habitat loss, making conservation efforts vital across their range.
In Africa, cheetahs thrive in Tanzania’s Serengeti and Kenya’s Maasai Mara, as well as parts of Uganda and Somalia. For luxury safari seekers, lodges like Singita Sasakwa, Angama Mara, and &Beyond Kichwa Tembo offer prime cheetah-spotting opportunities. These camps provide expert guides and open-vehicle game drives, often timed to catch the cheetah in action across golden plains.
