Where to Stay

Kitela Lodge

from $347 per person per night for 2026/27

A smart new property with views to match

One of the new properties to be built in the Ngorongoro Highlands, Kitela Lodge is a sister property to the nearby and much larger, Ngorongoro Farmhouse. The main entrance to Kitela is fairly underwhelming until you arrive at the front doors where you are confronted by the view through the property to the valley beyond which is certain to take the breath away. This is a great little property that will, in our view, do very well for those wanting to save on spending.

stunning views from the main areas, good sized rooms, good value for money, heated swimming pool

it is a bit further to the Ngorongoro Conservation entrance than some of the other properties

About the location

Just off the main road from Lake Manyara Airstrip to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area entrance, Kitela Lodge is about a 45 minute drive from the park itself in rolling hills. As with the nearby Gibb’s Farm, the view is very much the star of the show from the main areas, looking west to the rise of the Ngorongoro Crater.

Do see Parks & Regions on this page.

lodge Layout

The 20 detached suites are all located in the property gardens and look out to the rolling view with varied levels of success. The main are really is the focus for the property with a central courtyard and vast verandah that looks out to the view and over the swimming pool a level down. On the whole it has been well thought out and, even for the less mobile, is easy to navigate.

Do see our new Kitela Lodge Picture Gallery further down this page.

Kitela Lodge Accomodation

The rooms are simple but feature everything that you would expect, with large beds, balcony to the view and comfortable seating areas. For the price, we think that this property will fast become a favourite with those on a tighter budget.

Do see Best Safaris & Holidays on this page.

Wildlife & Activities at Kitela Lodge

As with many properties in the Ngorongoro Highlands, Kitela farms much of the produce that is consumed itself and so the activities are loosely arranged around visiting the farm and learning how things are managed and run generally. On top of this it is also possible to walk with some of the local Masai.
