About the location
The property is nestled into the palm trees that fringe the south western side of the island.
The western coastline of Pemba offers access to some of the region’s richest diving, with steep coral walls, abundant reef fish, rays and frequent sightings of sea turtles. Snorkelling from nearby boats reveals vibrant soft corals, while mangrove edges host kingfishers and small coastal wildlife. The area’s calm channels also support kayaking, giving guests a close view of Pemba’s biodiverse marine environment and forest‑lined shoreline.
On the downside, the remote location requires boat access and can feel isolated, and the rustic, nature‑immersed style may not appeal to travellers seeking polished, high‑end finishes.
hotel Layout
As alluded to above, due to the sheer size of the rooms and the jungle like nature of Fundu Lagoon, the rooms are well spaced apart from one another. What this means is that there is a bit of a walk to get to the main dining areas and the jetty…but they have cleverly located the pool centrally to all of the rooms and so, with this also having a restaurant, many guests will simply spend their time here, and then head over to Fundu’s sunset bar for a few drinks before supper.
It is true that it might not be the best destination for those will mobility issues, but, otherwise, you don’t really notice it.

Fundu Lagoon Accomodation
As mentioned above, there are quite a few different room types to choose from in Fundu Lagoon. Our preference is for the standard beach front rooms, the beach suites or the superior suites.
All of the rooms are well proportioned with a good space for the bathroom and bedroom and then a large decking area to the front with sun loungers and table and chairs. As far as facilities go, Fundu has also realized that there is a bit of distance to walk for a beer in the evening and so kindly put in a fridge with a selection of the favourites!

Wildlife & Activities at Fundu Lagoon
The name of the game for many that visit Pemba Island is the quality and myriad options for diving. Fundu has always been one of the best located dive properties on the island due to its close proximity to the marine park that is located on the lower western side of the island.
