Where to Stay

Nsefu Camp

from $1,150 per person per night for 2026/27

The first safari lodge built in the South Luangwa National Park!

Nsefu Camp homes history and exceptional wildlife. Built in 1956 by Norman Carr, this was the first safari lodge to occupy the South Luangwa National Park. It is the only camp located on the rich plains of the Nsefu Sector, and run by Robin Pope Safaris, it excels in its quality of service and guiding.

Incredible wildlife and game viewing location

The rooms are very close together, not much privacy

About the location

Nsefu Camp is located in the rich plains of the Nsefu sector in South Luangwa National Park. It is only property in the Nsefu Sector (Tena Tena is located just south of the Nsefu Sector, also owned by Robin Pope Safaris), so guests can experience seclusion and exclusivity, along with fantastic game viewing opportunities.

The game in this area is exceptional; the Chicehli pride of lion (3 sub-adult males, 5 females and a few cubs) are regularly seen as they move between the north Mfuwe and the Nsefu sector.

Do see Parks & Regions on this page.

camp Layout

As the first safari lodge built, Norman Carr had concerns about safety so all of the rooms were built very close together so that you did not have to walk far in the wilderness.

The rooms structures are all the original ones, so they are noticeably close to one another, something that is not seen in other safari camps. The main area is small and includes a comfortable lounge area and bar, positioned between a termite mound and lagoon. Views out to the Luangwa River can be enjoyed from the main area, a perfect place for an “armchair safari”.

Nsefu Camp Accomodation

Nsefu Camp has six spacious en-suite chalets which have been designed to capture the elegance of “classic Africa”. The chalets are the original structures that were built in the 1950’s and are circular in shape and have a high thatched roof.

Robin Pope Safaris have added an “evening breeze” aircon unit which is effective when the mosquito nets are down and the curtains shut.

Wildlife & Activities at Nsefu Camp

As with most other camps, the choice and flexibility of game viewing activities is always offered. Game drives (day or night) and walking safaris are available, and lasting around 3-4 hours per activity.

The game viewing in the Nsefu Sector is so impressive, with leopard, lion, elephants, hippo and crocodiles seen often. The wild dogs are also seen quite often as a pack of 15 occupy the area of Nsefu, north Mfuwe and up to Tafika.
