About the location
Konokono Beach Resort is situated on the south east coast of Zanzibar, on arguably one of the most pristine and secluded beaches on the island. The hotel is built amongst a tropical forest and overlooks Chwaka Bay.
The Michamvi Peninsula’s south‑eastern shoreline offers shallow, warm water suited to snorkelling among reef fish, starfish and small coral patches, with boat trips reaching reefs where green turtles, dolphins, reef sharks and rays are regularly seen. Diving excursions can access deeper coral gardens where manta rays occasionally appear, and kayaking or paddle‑boarding is often possible in calm lagoon conditions. Sunset outings along the peninsula frequently encounter dolphins offshore.
More critically, the wide tidal range restricts swimming, and the secluded location means fewer nearby dining or activity options compared with more central coastal areas.
resort Layout
The property is well spaced out, making it feel spacious and open. You are first welcomed in the reception area, and from there the different room types are located off a central path that leads to the beach. At the end of the path- which is shaped and groomed beautifully with tropical plants and flowers- there is huge open-plan restaurant which overlooks the infinity pool.
The pool itself is stunning, but its view, overlooking the expansive white sand beach and the Indian Ocean, just makes it that more special.

Konokono Beach Resort Accomodation
There a few different types of rooms at Konokono. They offer garden view, family and sea view villas which have all been recently renovated with a modern and clean décor with a subtle Zanzibar influence.
They have also recently built new beach pavilions, which literally sit on the white sand beach and each morning, you are able to wake to the view of the Indian Ocean. They have king-size beds and their own patio with a private plunge pool. They are definitely our favourite type of room, but some may argue that they are not as private as they’d like.
